bob dyaln and queen song difference

The song Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen is very different from Bob Dylan song Subterranean Homesick Blues. The technical difficulties have changed over a decade the are more or new things that are used let me explaine.

Firstly the camera is moving at different angles this known as different angle shots, where as in the Bob Dylan song the camera is a fixed camera and is froze to the ground throught the whole song.

The techincal features also involve the camera focusing on different shots of the singers, the camera is doing close up shots of each of the singers faces where as in the previous music video it did not.

The second technical feature of this that the camera is doing new features that were not seen on the Bob Dylan track this is when a picture or a scene in a video starts of solid and starts to water down to a thin scene before disappering before going in to another close up of the singer.

The final technical feature is the lighting used in the video, now in the the Bob Dyaln song no lighting effect was used but when i listend to the queen song i noticed that reflector's were used to shine extra light on to the singers face to be seen more, reflectors are mostly in music songs where they are mostly shooting dark scenes.

Other techniques used in the song were harmonies, harmonies are used in singing but it needs two or more people to do, this is when one person starts off with the lowest note and the other people make the notes higher.

Thriller michael jackson

The song thriller is a pop song by the late king of pop Michael Jackson, the song was off the album thriller in the year 1982 along with the song Beat it.

The song has many technical features the first feature is that the song has different animals howling in the background to give it that spooky sense about it, maybe the animals howling was used to show the frighting side to the song because when you hear wolves howling you automatically think that it is danger, which gives it the chill that curdles your spine whilst watching the video.

Then second technical feature of this is how they used Vincent Price to do a voice over the graveyard part of the song, when i saw this i automatically thought that while Vincent was talking he was summoning the dead from the underworld back to life just through talking, in addition to this the way Vincent talks gives that kind of gritty dead texture firstly to his voice and secondly to the video which is kind of cool from my point of view.

Finally the third technical view for this video is the effects that are used. Firstly no reflectors were used so the video is constantly dimmed through out the video so it gives that coat of death for the video, secondly the smoke screen effect around the grave is the ultimate halloween trick or treat theme to it, thirdly the makeup used for the zombies and when they turn Michael into a zombie was most probably classed as realistic back then because it gave zombies that gut pouring image they are supposed to have.

Overall i think that this song was pushed to the limit so it can sell itself to the audience by making it look like a mini movie so when it was shown on m.t.v. It was the first music video to look like a film but also the first music video with a story behind it. it was the first music video to be sold to people.

The song "Subterranean Homesick Blues" by Bob Dylan is a black and white film from the 1960's, the video shows someone with a load of cue cards and as the lyrics roll in the song the cue cards are being discarded, but with different words on it.

The technology used in the video is quite plain and simple. I know this because firstly the thing that i noticed is the way the camera is focused to the person with the cards, the camera dose not move, dose not do any close up or any mid shots it just stays on a long shot for the whole music video.

Another technical point to the video is that it is in black and white, during the 1960's colour television was invented or better yet around. I think that the black and white vision was used because the video for the song is similar to a silent movie where the acting was going on then if someone spoke then cards with what the person said, so i could say this is exactly like a silent movie.

The third technical point is that the person with the cue cards that the camera is focused on in the whole video is completely silent through out the video he is using the cards to speak for him, like he is a mime. But on the cue cards the words are part of the lyrics so when Bob is singing the cards change to different parts of the song. Maybe the cue cards are there incase he forgets the lyrics of the song.

Overall i think that "Subterranean Homesick Blues" is ok, but in my opinion i think that the camera needs to move around a bit more instead of being continuously glued to one place for the music video, and another thing with the camera is that it needs to use different shots like close ups or even mid shots because this brings no excitement to the song at all it makes the music video seem dull and boring in my opinion. Also in my opinion i think the song is very unattractive it brings no excitement to the viewer, where as if we watched a modern song from this year there would be a fizz of excitement in that video that makes the viewer want to listen to song over and over again where as this song dosent show this, but it shows how much music videos have changed through out the 50 years that this was made, it also shows how much technology has changed over the past 50 years .

How have music videos changed over the years, Firstly we need to know what is the purpose of of a music video.

The purpose of a music video is to sell the song and to invoke a reaction so it leaves the audience remembering the song, it gives the listener a better under understanding  of the song. to entertain (to show off other talents),the musician may have for example dancing or acting to sell cd's and dvd's to the  viewers, to create a memorable visual for the song increasing it's chances to sell and marketing for the purposes of exposures and expansion of the artist's profile (reasons from www.slideshare.net).

Secondly, the first era of music was during (1902-1917),this was formally known as "the Phonoscene era", phonoscene was introduced to london in 1907 when Buckingham palace got it on april 4th 1907.

During 1926-1959, talkies came on to the scene, they were produced for musical short films, warner bros produced a similar thing known as the "Vitaphone" (first national stock from 1926 to 1931), the last major analog "sound on a disc system".

Thirdly the way music video's were performed was that the artist or musician would have to perform it live on stage up until 1982 when the song "thriller" by michael jackson (1958-2009). The song thriller was the first music video to be recorded that has a story behind it. But before that happend, artists would be performing their songs live without a music video, they would be performing their shows on shows like Top of the pops. For example the song "you really got me", produced and originally sung by The Kinks then later through the years another version was done by american hard rock band Van Halen in the year 1978 for their first album Van Halen along with other tracks such as eruption.

van halen panama history

Song: panama
album: van halen 1984
release date: june 1984

song information: the song panama is the third track from the album 1984, the last album for van halen's  first and original singer David Lee Roth (who is now officially back with van halen through their reunion tour from 2007-2008, whilst also recording their new album a different kind of truth from this year 2012).

the song was officially recorded in the year 1983 before the album 1984 was released, the song and album was recorded in Eddie Van Halen's home recording studio the 5150 studio (the term 5150 is an american police term for someone who is crazy and flipped out).

Format: the song panama was produced by Ted Templeman and was labeled by warner music group, and was directed by Pete Angelus, when Panama was viewed, the video was recorded as it was at a real rock concert, the song also has bits of comedy in the song, the song shows members of the band (Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, David Lee Roth and Michael Anthony) flying through the air on a bit of cable.

The purpose of this song is to make the listeners dance to the music even though Van Halen's genre of music is hard rock, fast rock and heavy metal.

The song facts of panama is that the song was based around a car known as the panama express.

the second fact is that after Eddie's solo the song goes into a middle 8, and during the middle 8 Eddie reves the engine on his lambo which you can hear in the background.

the last songfact is that this song is a well known yet famous song aswell as jump, drop dead legs (has a stunning guitar solo) and hot for teacher.

panama key features

The tempo of the song panama is 4/4 beats per bar, the genre of the son is classed as fast rock.

Aspects: The way that Eddie Van Halen plays the guitar is very technicle, because the different techniques that eddie used are mostly based around Jimi Hendrix, Chuckberry and even Eddie's own techniues that he invented due to him not taking formal guitar lessons when he was younger. An example of Eddie's guitar technique is called a scoop. Other techniques that he used are also Eric Clapton licks just sped up into a rock tempo.

Difference: The way that this video is different from other rock videos is the way the band or artist performs during the performance, they dress as if they were crazy.

Promotion: It promotes the band by the way they play, it is very different from other rock bands they play what the audience wants to hear.

Wire work: I think the wire work was used to somehow make the music video more 5150 (crazy) looking, and to also make the viewer/listener more excited and more urged to see Van Halen. This was a new technique for the band (Bon Jovi done a similar thing in the song "Livin on a prayer".

Clothing: The way that Van Halen's bass player Michael Anthony dresses is kind of out of fasion and crazy looking, this would sell the band out so fans would get more excited, the second reason to the way michael dresses is that it is so wacky and off the wall, the style that people never dressed in, he makes the music video more exciting and electrifiying. In the song Jump Anthony dresses in the same style but in the song jump the clothes that he incredably wears the same clothes with its similaritys, they were nearly the same clothes that Anthony wears as in the song Panama.

This is my magazine cover that took me quite a while, as you can see it is based around van halen seen as i am a really big van halen fan amongst other guitarists like zakk wylde and slash. The only cool thing that i did is that i kept the photo in black and white whilst keeping the les paul styled guitar in its golden orb colour (thanks mr.keil for the insperational idea keep rocking on), this made the guitar stand out so much in the photo (well it would do being the only colourful object there), but really the guitar is the man thing there due to it being out van halen and mostly eddie van halen. In my opinion the things that i should have improved on is by making the magazine look more appeling to the audience or reader (basicly for the person buying it).But overall i think that this is the best piece of work that i created even though its the first magazine cover i have done and accomplished.Hopefuly in the future i will get more oppotunities like this (which i doubt).
